Italian Landscapes

Traveling by train between Florence and Rome, hundreds of tiny Renaissance paintings passed by my window - much too quickly to add to my collection of illustrated memories. Taking snapshots saved the day. Leaving everything to chance - I gathered pictures usually viewed on museum walls. Landscapes from Renaissance paintings - my favorite kind - like Leonardo's "Annunciation" with those dark and penetrating trees. I think I've given him way too much credit all these years. How could beauty not emerge in the midst of such splendor.
